World Peace Begins At Home, my submission to the latest Doll Army cause (see previous post).
I have loved making the most recent Comforters in the company of friends. Thank you: Laura (& baby Elliot), Marjorie, Kriss, Jane, and Emily for joining me at the last three U-Hill Sewing Circle's. The next one will be at Seamrippers, an art & craft collective in Downtown Vancouver on March 14.
I got some funny mail art today from Barry Edgar Pilcher in County Donegal, Ireland. He writes,
just thought I am a displaced person
live on a tiny island off donnegal
just me my rat
would like a entire blanket
if possible
OK, thank you
Barry & Beavis the rat
Are there any suggestions out there for a suitable response?
Dear Lois,
a possible response to Barrys call...
11:57 05.03.05
a lot of us mailartists are displaced persons
shipwrecked no matter where
on tiny islands or in the urban desert
of a megalopolis -
there is a witch out there
who in her urban witch hut
spends her times of darkness
sewing comforters for violet souls,
lonesome dragons, and other
displaced people like herself -
ask
(witchart-tatjana@web.de)
and get a response

Thanks for your comment – I treasure comments (so few and far between!)... I also treasure any mail (postal, virtual or otherwise) from you!
I was thinking of making a quilt for Barry’s rat. An American contributor to Comforter sent a large pile of squares printed with American flags. I have been told that blankets with American or overtly Christian messages cannot be distributed overseas. So, I thought that I would make them into a blanket for Barry’s rat. What do you think?

Dear Barry, I know a cat who would love a hat, and I am afraid that when he heard about your rat, he said, I want that!
But rats need to be warmed as do poets on the isle of Donegal, so I hope Lois carries through with her flag waving idea and sends you all good cheer with red, right and blue on which your rat can chew, or share that warmth with you. Kriss
