Coyote Comforts – In 2009, Maggie Winston & Lois Klassen are resolved to transforming a huge stack of these coyote squares into functional blankets to warm displaced Vancouverites. You are invited to join Maggie Winston & me for two upcoming Coyote Comforts Sew-In’s at Britannia Library:
Sunday, February 15, 1-4pm
Everyone is welcome to assist with sewing together the squares or knotting the blankets. No special skills required and you do not have to bring any supplies (you can bring your own scissors and sharp darning needles, if you wish).
Covering Up – By February 2010, Pierre-Andre Sonolet & Lois Klassen are resolved to covering up the City of Vancouver (as if there isn’t enough covered up already). You are invited to join us! Download Coveringup
Women’s Memorial Quilt Project – Part 2 – The (new) Downtown Eastside Centre for the Arts is hosting sewing circles to work on a new phase of the Women’s memorial quilt on Monday & Tuesday afternoons at the Interurban gallery. Download DeCA_Quilt_Poster
Tree Cozies – Erin Gibbs, a 2nd year Textile Arts Student from Capilano U., sent me this call for another (textile) intervention on the streetscape of Vancouver. If you make a tree cozy for the stumps on Granville, maybe you could also send a photo of it to Covering Up.
through the area recently you'll notice that the trees that lined
Granville Street between Drake and Cordova Streets are now shoulder-high
stumps. The planting of new trees is scheduled to be complete by the end of 2009.
In the meantime, it's January, and those stumps look pretty miserable.
What say we decorate them?
I will document (photos, video) the installation of the cozies so please
let me know when you will be installing your piece. Alternatively, I'm
happy to pick up your work and install it for you.
The timeline on this is TIGHT!
Deadline to install: NOW until January 31
Please let me know if you are interested in participating. erin[at]thisisplanb.net
